Red Cross Comes To Aid In Fight On Influenza

• Dr. E.J. Labbe today was appointed chairman of the Red Cross committee in charge of fighting influenza• Another call for nurses and nurses’ aids was issued by the Red Cross; 26 responded to the first call; 2 nurses and 2 nurses’ aids were assigned to Benson Polytechnic; 3 nurses to the Vancouver Barracks with nurses’ aids to possibly be assigned; one aid was assigned to a private family under exceptional circumstances• Miss Elizabeth Stevens, local Red Cross nursing director, has been able to answer all appeals so far for nurses• Miss Stevens was told by the Red Cross field director at Vancouver Barracks that a temporary barracks hospital would be built that would economize the use of nurses• Stevens: “A call of this kind demands real courage to answer. There is no glory attached to fighting influenza but sheer bravery is needed.”Newspaper article
