Influenza Ban To Be Off Saturday

• The influenza ban will end on Saturday. Dr. Seeley approved Mayor Baker’s decision from early in the week. • “Stores, theaters, streetcars, churches, football games, lodges, schools, elevators and all other institutions affected by the original closing order and those that followed are to be released from all restrictions.”• Dr. Seeley: “But don’t let this removal of the ban also remove all precautions against the influenza. If people will be sensible about the lifting of the order and take care of themselves for a little while, we may rid ourselves of the epidemic—otherwise it may be with us all Winter in more or less malignant form.”• Influenza patients are instructed to take care. Doctors should isolate all cases and keep up good precautions as before. • Rescinded: stores closing at 3:30 PM, all offices closing at 4 PM, public places closed, partial closing of pool rooms, and no crowds in public places. • The influenza ban has been on in Portland since October 11th. The early closing order was not issued until November 3rd. • Dr. Seeley: “A graph of the cases and deaths, both in the city and in the state, shows a rapidly-descending curve. From reports of other cities we know that the epidemic subsides much more quickly than it gains momentum, so we may expect practically a clean sheet all over the state in about another week.
