Albany Reports 600 Grip Cases

• Sunday, Oct. 6, Officials Mayor Watt, Commissioner of Public Safety J. Sheldon Frost, and health commissioner Dr. Arthur Sautter, hold four hour conference• Dr. Sautter advises all theatres, schools, and churches in Albany will be closed if the spread of influenza does not stop• Voluntary quarantine is in effect for students of the student army training corps of the State College for Teachers• About one third of the students are afflicted with the disease• “Every physician in Albany is overworked”• Dr. Sautter advises Albany residents to remain at home and call for a physician at the first sign of influenza; if disease continues to spread, he will issue the order to close every place of indoor congregation• Policy: State sanitation laws do not require physicians to report influenza cases• Albany hospital “G” pavilion reported twenty-seven cases last night; 181 serious cases• Dr. Sautter requests physicians make daily reports as to the number of influenza cases handled to watch spread of disease and make precautionary measures to prevent further spread • Doctors report between 5 and 12 patients; Dr. A.W.
