Serum To Be Issued

• Officials of the bacteriological department of the University of Minnesota last night announced the free distribution to physicians of an anti-pneumonia serum• In announcing the plan the officials call attention to the fact that there is no anti-influenza serum and that the only way to make the disease less dangerous is to make the patient immune to the most likely fatal complications• There was no increase in influenza in the Twin Cities yesterday• Dr. B.F. Simon, City Health Officer, compiled statistics that there were 34 deaths among the civilian population of St. Paul between midnight September 30 and 9:30 p.m. yesterday. These were deaths from pneumonia and several of them were never reported as influenza cases• Dr. Simon believes that these figures show that the situation in St. Paul is not serious, and though there are a large number of cases, the disease is appearing in mild form• “As evidence of the efficacy of fresh air in meeting a threatened epidemic of influenza, Dr. Simon pointed to the fact that since the publishing of appeals for people who reside in what might be called the ‘walking home’ zone, the last few days have failed to bring a single report of influenza from this district.”Newspaper article
