The Harshaw Chemical Company is growing halide crystals in pound denomination; the earlier researches of Stockbarger are being used to good advantage. The Verneuil Method for preparing synthetic sapphires has been developed by the Linde Air Products who are producing not only large sapphires, but a number of other refractory oxides.
