An electrostatic precipitator and a newly developed filter paper are compared for efficiency, reliability, availability, and ease of use. The aerosols collected in either case are counted for alpha activity in a cylindrical pulse chamber, the design of which is an adaptation of the breech-locking air alpha chamber.
