The leakage of water from the stuffing boxes of four commercially available valves was measured under simulated power reactor conditions. Average leakage rates between 0.1 and 10 lb/yr were measured for three fully open valves of 3/4- to 6-inch size during a test in which they were pressure and thermal cycled 100 times to 1000 psig and 240©�C.
