The illustrated folio ed. was first published there in 1609 by Cl. Cramoisy, followed by the ed. of Abel l'Angelier's widow in 1614 or 1615. In the present copy the engraved t.p. date of 1614 has been altered in the plate to 1615, while the "Extraict des registres de Parlement" naming Abel l'Angelier and Matthieu Guillemot is dated 28 Nov. 1609, and the colophon on p. 921 is dated 2 Jan. 1614.The Eikonĕs are associated with the four sophists of the Philostratus family of Lemnos, who lived 2nd-3rd century A.D.; see Oxford companion to classical literature.
