Plasma von Willebrand factor (vWF) plays a central role in platelet adhesion and platelet thrombi formation under high shear stress. Thereby, the elevated plasma level of vWF during normal pregnancy has a risk of serious thrombo-embolic complications, but such events rarely happen. To address this issue, I have studied the structural and functional aspects of plasma vWF on 74 different samples from normal non- pregnant women and on 217 samples from 157 normal pregnant women, both after taking informed consent.
