While a test score may be valid for a group there may sometimes be reason to suspect its validity for an individual. Unusual examinee response patterns may indicate that the test may be invalid for the individual and quantitative measures called appropriateness indices have been developed to detect these unusual patterns. For a number of reasons, Lz and ECIZ4 have so far proven to be two of the most useful of these indices. There were three purposes for this study.
