In this contribution, the author tries to show that unified Basque (Batua) and Souletine dialect (Zuberera) are not incompatible, but instead that they are complementary. Here we find a typical case of diglossia in the strict sense of the word (Ferguson). The knowledge and protection of Basque dialectal diversity are necessary. The Souletine dialect does not have to fight against Batua which, in any case, is the stronger of the twoo. It must preserve its place by use its privileged fields: family life, associative circles, teaching in nursery school and primary education, cultural and religious life, in the province.
