In this paper the reflection and transmission coefficients at a planar interface between a chiral and an achiral half-space are derived. Due to the circular birefringence of chiral media, a cross-coupling between parallel and perpendicular polarizations will occur in the achiral medium. The influence of the chirality parameter on the total internal reflection and on the Brewster angle for waves propagating from the achiral half-space onto the chiral medium is addressed. Based on the analysis developed herein it is also possible to shed light on the occurrence of semileaky modes is dielectric chirowaveguides
