Engraved throughout by Conrad Grale, including the calligraphic texts. First leaf is title (colonnade, city view beyond, another city view in oval reserve at foot). Second & 3rd leaves are dedications, the first signed: Manu Kleppisij, Caelo Grallij. Fourth & 5th leaves are laudatory epigrams. Sixth & 7th are addresses to the reader. The 44 emblematic ill. in ovals appear on the right page of openings, with Latin aphorism above and epigram beneath. The epigram appears in German translation on the facing page.Landwehr, J. These leaves correspond to the first 41 emblems of c. 1, less the 28th. The preliminaries are entirely wanting. Now inserted loosely in an old vellum cover, with strips of rubricated Latin MS showing at either side of the inner spine, and with two replacement ties at foredge & holes for two more.
