This paper compares three statistical procedures for making probability statements about the true transmitting ability of progeny-tested sires for an all-or-none polygenic trait. Method I is based on the beta binomial model whereas methods II and III result from Bayesian approaches to the threshold-liability model of Sewall Wright. An application to lower bounds of the transmitting ability of superior sires with a high twinning rate in their daughter progeny is presented. Results of different methods are in good agreement.
