Valor nutritivo del follaje de árboles y arbustos tropicales. II Leucaena leucocephala cv CNIA 250.

Nutritive value of Leucaena leucocephala cv. CNIA-250 forage was determined without irrigation nor fertilization in both seasons of the year. The study was carried out with castrated lambs allocated in metabolism cages and using the total fecal collection method with daily ad libitum forage supply adjustments. The crude protein content reached values of 22,8 and 23,4 % with a digestibility of 66,9 and 62,6 % for rainy and dry seasons, respectively. Organic matter digestibility was 63,2 and 58,8 %, the content of metabolizable energy ranged between 9,25 and 8,60 Mj/kg of DM whereas DM intake was 59,9 and 58,1 g/kg P0,75, for the rainy and dry seasons, respectively. The nutritive value results, as well as the daily voluntary forage intake and the nutrient yields suggested that this leucaena variety is a very good forage to be used in ruminant feeding systems in tropics and subtropics. The short morphology (height) of this forage shrub give a good option to be used in browsing (agrosilvopastoral) systems for sheep and goat production.Se determinó el valor nutritivo de Leucaena leucocephala cv. La evaluación fue realizada con ovinos alojados en jaulas de metabolismo, utilizando el método de colección total de heces y oferta del forraje a voluntad. El contenido de proteína bruta alcanzó valores de 22,8 y 23,4 %, con una digestibilidad de 66,9 y 62,6 %. La digestibilidad de la materia orgánica fue de 63,2 y 58,8 %, el contenido de energía metabolizable de 9,25 y 8,60 Mj/kg de MS y el consumo de materia seca de 59,9 y 58,1 g/kg P0,75 para lluvia y seca respectivamente. Los resultados del valor nutritivo, así como el consumo y el rendimiento de nutrimentos, indicaron que esta variedad de leucaena presenta un potencial alimenticio apreciable para los rumiantes y puede ser una buena opción para la utilización en ovino-caprinos, debido a su menor altura
