[[abstract]]A design methodology for the simulation of a photovoltaics conversion system was developed which can be used as a design guide for PV applications in Taiwan. This methodology has features that are different from the SOLCEL program and is particularly suitable to areas (like Taiwan) in which the utility cannot be used as a storage system. The operating modes and component size are optimized according to: (1) the fraction of the electrical load that is supplied by solar energy; (2) the relationship of solar electric availability and battery capacity; and (3) the unit price ratio of the array and battery over a 20-year period.
