[[abstract]]Consider a protocol specification S and a faulty implementation I. The objective of diagnostic testing is to locate the faults of I. Recently, A. Ghedamsi et al. (1993) proposed a 3-phase method for diagnostic testing: (1) obtain the expected outputs of S and the observed outputs of I; (2) generate a minimal set D of diagnoses; (3) identify which element of D is equivalent to I. Though their method can perform fault diagnostics successfully, it is very time consuming. In this paper, we propose two techniques to improve their method.
