[[abstract]]In a mobile ad hoc network (MANET), mobile nodes use ad hoc routing protocols to decide the routing paths for data transmissions. Since the mobile nodes are powered by batteries with limited capacities, it is important to design the routing protocols that can efficiently utilize the battery capacities of mobile nodes. In this paper, we modified DSR routing protocol and adjusted the transmit power of mobile nodes according to their remaining battery capacities. We designed an energy efficient routing protocol, which can find the. routing paths that consume less energy and avoid choosing the nodes with low battery capacities to relay packets.
