The Effects of Sexual Objectification on Self-Perception and Risky Sexual Behaviors

The purpose of the proposed research is to explore the impact sexual objectification has on self-perception and participant willingness to engage in risky behaviors. I will focus on identifying the negative impact sexual objectification has on student self-perceptions, as well as explore the risky sexual behaviors these individuals might indulge in. Online surveys will be distributed to self-selected general psychology students and data will be selected using Qualtrics. I hypothesize that students who report exposure to sexual objectification in media images have a negative self-perception and are more willing to engage in risky sexual behaviors. This study will provide needed insight into how college students perceive themselves, as well as explore individual participant willingness to indulge in risky sexual behaviors
