This project examines current research in literacy, early childhood environments, and developmentally appropriate methods of teaching reading. In order to maximize learning the skills of reading, children need a developmentally appropriate curriculum as well as an environment which allows for individual discovery. The project resulted in a manual for literacy centers that not only informs Kindergarten teachers about the latest literacy research, but it also shows ways to incorporate reading activities in the classroom.
