[[abstract]]An analytical analysis of buoyancy-induced convection in an infinite fluid-saturated porous media with a concentrated heat source is presented. This method can be used to model the thermal problems in underground disposal of high level radwaste (HLW). Perturbation analysis in the Rayleigh number, which is based on the heat generation rate, is used to determine the transient and steady-state temperature distributions and flow patterns around the source. In the perturbation analysis, only the leading terms in the series expansion are considered, which limits its validity to small Rayleigh numbers of less than 20.
