[[abstract]]©1999 PIMRC-This paper describes the design of an adaptive mobility-aware signaling protocol for wireless packet telephony. Packet telephony is expected to see continued growth in supporting corporate and commercial services. As more users disconnect from their fixed access points and become mobile, there is an increasing need to adapt voice over packet (VoP) to the wireless domain. The mobile wireless environment, however, is much more dynamic and subject to change than the traditional wireline environment. Successful installation of VoP in this uncertain operational environment calls for signaling and control protocols that are adaptable. In this paper we detail how active networks can reduce the latency and enhance the curren...
