[[abstract]]©2006 IEEE-Future network environment is expected to have IPv4 and IPv6 coexisted in heterogeneous networks. This paper presents a roaming mechanism called Heterogeneous Intersystem Mobility (HIM) to achieve intersystem roaming between IPv4 and IPv6 in heterogeneous wireless networks, including 3GPP, 3GPP2, and WLAN. The proposed mechanism integrates Mobile IPv6, Network Address Translation - Protocol Translation (NAT-PT), and 6to4 automatic tunnel. The proposed mechanism keeps the network architectures integrated into HIM unchanged. Therefore, it is suitable for other emerging wireless networks. A testbed has been constructed. A real-time multimedia application with remote control has been implemented to demonstrate that users ...
