The first chapter is an examination of contemporary artist, Kara Walker and her 2001 installation, Endless Conundrum An African Anonymous Adventuress. I discuss how Walker exploits the craft of Victorian silhouette portraiture to critique existing representations of her African American race. I specifically inspect how Walker critiques representations of the Black female body as an exotic Other. The second chapter is a discussion of my art practice. Specifically I use queer, feminist, and anti-racist theory to discuss drawing, abstraction, and identity. The third chapter is a collection of images that document my drawing practice
