Abstract

Mestrado em Econometria Aplicada e PrevisãoThe Portuguese National Health System states that access to health care should depend mainly on need. Conditional on need, access to pharmaceuticals should not depend on socio-economic factors such as income, social class, education or geographical factors such as the access to pharmacies. This study uses data from the last two waves of National Health Survey (1995/1996 and 1998/1999) and focuses on equity issues testing for the existence of insurance inequalities, income-related and pharmacies density related inequalities.
