Bitcoin: The currency of the future?

Treball Final de Grau en Finances i Comptabilitat. Codi: FC1049. Curs acadèmic 2013-2014Bitcoin is a virtual currency created in January of 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto. This currency is based in a peer-to-peer electronic cash system and presents some characteristics that make it different from other virtual currencies and the fiat currencies too. These particular characteristics are for example: the decentralization, the finite number of coins, the anonymity, the possibility of use it around the world and so on. Moreover, in the Bitcoin system the supply of new units of currency is not controlled by the central authorities or a company, the new Bitcoins are generated in the mining process. The mining process consists in the resolution of cryptographic algorithms and is the base of the Bitcoin system because with this: new coins are introduced, the transactions between Bitcoin directions are confirmed and registered and is the process that allows to avoid the double spending. All of these characteristics make that the Bitcoin is seen by the people as a possible alternative to the currently payment systems
