Relación entre variables lingüísticas y el estatus sociométrico dentro del trastorno específico del lenguaje (TEL)

Social competence includes linguistic as well as social interaction skills. Consequently, are the older children with language difficulties, like those diagnosed with Specific Language Impairment (SLI), who often have more problems building relationships (Marton et al., 2005) and also appearing as subjects usually ignored or rejected by their peers ( Knox and Conti- Ramsden, 2007). Specifically, teenagers with poor pragmatic competence are at higher risk of suffering social difficulties (Botting and Conti-Ramsden, 2000). Therefore, the aim of this paper is to describe the social acceptance of two subgroups of children with SLI at school age (differentiated by their pragmatic skills) to find out which aspects of language are stronger related to social acceptance in each group. To achieve that goal, in this study three groups of children were recruted: 19 children with conventional-SLI, 16 children with pragmatic- SLI, and a respective age-matched control group (between 4-8 years). Each participant was evaluated to establish his sociometric status with a sociometric scale. Consecuentemente, los niños con mayores dificultades lingüísticas, como aquellos diagnosticados con Trastorno Específico del Lenguaje (TEL), suelen presentar más problemas para formar relaciones interpersonales (Marton et al., 2005), apareciendo habitualmente como sujetos rechazados o bien ignorados por sus compañeros (Knox y Conti-Ramsden, 2007). Concretamente, se ha demostrado que son los adolescentes con dificultades en el componente pragmático los que están en mayor riesgo de padecer dificultades sociales (Botting y Conti- Ramsden, 2000). Por ello, el objetivo de este trabajo es describir la aceptación social de dos subgrupos de niños con TEL en edad escolar, diferenciados por sus habilidades pragmáticas, para comprobar qué aspectos del lenguaje están más relacionados con la aceptación social de cada uno de los grupos. Para ello, en este estudio participaron 19 niños con TEL-convencional y 16 niños con TEL- pragmático, y sus respectivos controles (entre 4-8 años). A todos ellos se los evaluó mediante una sociometría para determinar su estatus sociométrico.
