We have developed a highly efficient nanosecond-pulse Yb:YAG laser operated at a room temperature. From the experimental results, a highly optical to optical conversion efficiency of 81% for absorbed pump power was obtained for CW oscillation with nearly TEM00 mode. An optical to optical conversion efficiency of 73% for the absorption power was obtained for cavity-dumped oscillation with 7 μJ pulse energy and 16 ns pulse width at a repetition frequency of 100 kHz
