In this study, we investigated the damage caused to human life and property in Shiga Prefecture due to heavy snowfall from December 2005 until February 2006. Four people were reported dead in Shiga Prefecture. Further, seven individuals were reported to be severely wounded, with another ten sustaining minor injuries. Three houses were completely destroyed and six were partially destroyed. Eight hundred and fifty one houses suffered partial damages. Four houses were inundated under the first floor level. Moreover, 55 buildings except dwelling houses were damaged by the snowfall. Among four dead, three were elderly individuals, and all the human damage depended on accidents during snow removal work
