Barrgana Series to Discuss All Things Kimberley

A trip to Birlirr Ngawiyiwu Catholic School by The University of Notre Dame Australia School of Education, Broome has uncovered a collection of local artwork that will now play a significant role in the Campus’ upcoming Barrgana Series. The Barrgana Series hosts a variety of art and discussions relating to life in the Kimberley. From June 1 to 23 the Ringer Soak community will now add their chapter entitled, Kundat Djaru, to this ongoing story. One of the features of this year’s event is the diversity of topics covered with Kimberley art, books, environmental issues and football all set to be discussed in the relaxed atmosphere of the Broome Campus library gallery space. The series includes many well-known faces who will all share their stories over the coming weeks. Stephen ‘Bamba’ Albert and Esther Bevan are among those reminiscing about life with the St Johns of God Sisters in the mission schools and Environ’s Kimberley Chairperson Jacquie Remond will speak about the Kimberley’s natural beauty. There will even be some footy fever when Ex-Fremantle Docker Tony Delaney, Kimberley football historian Brian Kane and some special guests reminisce about football in the Kimberley and its important role in the region. The discussions begin on June 5 when Short Street Gallery’s Emily Rohr explores the unique art of the Kimberley and its significance for Aboriginal people
