Notre Dame launches public lecture series

The University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle’s Campus Ministry team has launched its exciting new lecture series, ‘Conversations on Tap’. Its first event saw the current Chairperson of Caritas in India, Bishop Peter Remigius, visit Notre Dame and talk to the University community about his important work with Caritas. Campus Minister, Tom Gannon, said Bishop Remigius spoke on personal experiences which have touched his life and influenced his work. “Bishop Remigius lost four close family members during the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami. He spoke not only on how this affected him, but how the experience helped him relate to and assist people struggling after the tragedy. “He also spoke about the different community development schemes he is involved in, in India and praised Caritas for their great work with Project Compassion,” Mr Gannon said. Bishop Remigius is the Bishop of Kumbakonam in the South of India and was formerly the Director of Caritas India and Asia Partnership for Human Development (APHD). He has been instrumental in shifting the building objectives of development partners in India from a charity model to a developmental model and has played a vital role with redeveloping villages and communities in Southern India after the Tsunami. Lectures and seminars for the ‘Conversations on Tap’ series will be held throughout the year. “It is the hope of the Campus Ministry and Notre Dame that with this new series we will engage with the local and wider community by giving them an opportunity to share different ideas in the unique environment of Notre Dame’s Fremantle Hotel,” said Mr Gannon
