Broome Campus support inspires students

Sasha Bailey is the winner of The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Broome Campus Aiming High Scholarship for 2008. The annual award is presented to a St Mary’s College, Broome, Year 11 student who has achieved outstanding academic success. The scholarship covers the cost of text books for Sasha’s first year of TEE, which this year will see her studying English, Human Biology, Introductory Calculus and Chemistry. Sasha said she was nervous and excited about the year ahead and was unsure which career path she wanted to pursue, but said she was aiming for a course in the science area. St Mary’s College, Broome, Year 11 and 12 Coordinator, Bridgid Lafferty said Sasha was a worthy recipient of the scholarship. “She has a strong desire to achieve and goes about her study independently,” she said. Sasha hopes to follow on from the success of previous Aiming High Scholarship winner Mathew Wellington. Mathew had a successful first TEE year and said the scholarship had helped him concentrate on his studies. The hard working student is hoping to study engineering, but confesses to contemplating pharmacy as another option. “Both Mathew and Sasha have great potential to do big things with their lives and it is wonderful to see the Broome Campus supporting these students,” Mrs Lafferty said. “One of the key focuses with our upper school students is to encourage them to utilise the facilities the Broome Campus has to offer.
