Significant grant received for Notre Dame’s Nulungu Centre for Indigenous Studies

A research project focused on The transition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students into higher education has won a significant grant for The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Nulungu Centre for Indigenous Studies. Recently announced by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC), the $220,000 grant will fund the Nulungu project which will contribute to the ‘body of work around the transition of underrepresented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students into higher education’. Margaret McCafferty, ALTC Senior Policy Officer, acknowledged the success of the Broome staff involved in the project. “On behalf of the Australian Learning and Teaching Council, congratulations to you and your team on the expression of interest submitted. We look forward to working with you during the coming weeks.” Deputy Vice Chancellor, Broome Campus, Professor Lyn Henderson Yates, says it is wonderful news for the Campus and the University. “We are very excited about winning this prestigious and substantial ALTC grant. “This research focuses on Indigenous students and education both of which are very important to the University,” said Professor Henderson-Yates. “The research project will involve staff from across the Broome, Fremantle and Sydney campuses and a researcher from The Southern Cross University.
