New Dean appointed for Philosophy and Theology

The Vice Chancellor of The University of Notre Dame Australia, Professor Celia Hammond, has announced the appointment of Dr Matthew Ogilvie as the new Dean of the School of Philosophy and Theology for the University’s Fremantle Campus. Dr Ogilvie has returned to Australia from the USA where he worked for University of Dallas as Director of the Philosophy and Letters Program and Online Education Coordinator for the University’s School of Ministry. Dr Ogilvie has also served as a research fellow at Boston College and he has taught at Australian Catholic University. He has given papers at national and international conferences Last year the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (USA) awarded him an academic fellowship for travel to Israel for counter-terrorism studies. His academic interests include systematic theology, religion and science, religion and terrorism. The decision of the selection committee received the full support of the Chancellor, Dr Michael Quinlan and Trustees of the University. The Vice Chancellor said: “We are delighted to have Matthew join our dedicated staff in the School of Philosophy and Theology. I am extremely confident that he will continue to lead the School in the excellent way of his predecessor, Father Peter Black.” Dr Ogilvie commenced in the position on 8th July.
