The present investigation was designed to study the effect of mechanical and chemical treatments on the surface properties of currently available direct tooth colored restoratives. Two types of esthetic restorative materials were used, the first was a hybrid dental composite while the second was a poly-acid modified resin. A total of sixty cylindrical specimens measuring 3 mm. in thickness and 5 mm. in diameter were prepared; 30 specimens for each restorative material. The specimens of each material were divided into two main groups.
