Nutritional Status of Egyptian Adult Cancer Patients

The present study aimed at screening, assessing and categorizing or triaging nutritional status of .Egyptian adult cancer patients. The studied population consisted of a convenience number of 60 hospitalized cancer patients (53.3%)males ,46.7%females) admitted in the oncology medical wards at National Cancer Institute( NCI),Cairo University.Two tools were used,such as demographic and medical data and the Scores Patient Generated-Subjective Global Assessment(PG-SGA)sheet to measure patients 'nutritional status. Results revealed that all subjects, without exception, suffered nutritional impact symptoms of loss of appetite ,whereas ,mantyof rhem suffered gastrointestinal problems ranging from 5%-45%.Almost one third of the subjects had leukemia and breast cancer(21.7% &16.7% respectively). Many of the subjects irrespective to different cancer diagnosis were severely malnourished (65%-stage C).
