Vast areas of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are covered with sand dunes. It is suspected that aquifers below sand dune areas receive substantial amounts of recharge. Preliminary results of a study which is now going on are presented. Main purpose of the research is the estimation of moisture and its distribution within the sand dune profile in a specific area. Data was collected using different instruments normally used for moisture content determination. Results indicate reasonable amounts of moisture is caught within the sand dunes. Possible methods of utilizing this moisture are briefly presented.ASC
