In order to assess the microbial quality of Riyadh drinking water, main reservoirs, check points of the distribution network, and 400 households were included in this study. Results indicated that water provided by Riyadh Water and Sewage Authority is safe for drinking as p[roved by the absence of colifroms and presence of adequate chlorine residual in both main reservoirs and distribution network. House tap water, however, may represent some potential threat to public health in some sections of the city. The problem seems to be related to lower reservoirs of some houses in the old sections of the city
