A Study of Selected Physical Properties of Dates

Physical properties of six date cultivars, namely, Barhee, Khalas, Nabbut Saif, Serri, Sukai, and Sukkari at the Tamr (full ripe) stage have been studied. Physical measurements of length, diameter, volume, and weight showed great variations. The average length, diameter, weight, and volume of the fresh fruits ranged between 4.603-2.269 cm,2.550- 1.307 cm, 12.915-8.401 g, and 12.897-8.301 cm3, respectively, while the average seed length, diameter, weight, and volume ranged between 2.357-1.034 cm, 0.867-0.654 cm, 1.315-0.657 g, and 1.219-0.656 cm3, respectively. The regression equations for volumes of fruits and seeds, and for volume percentage of seed/fruit were obtained. The equations were related to weights of fruits and seeds, and to weight percentage of seed/fruit. Finally, results also show that a good resemblance to geometric bodies is attainable
