La particule de reconnaissance du signal (SRP) est responsable de l'adressage des chaines peptidiques naissantes vers le réticulum endoplasmique. Dans des systèmes de traduction in vitro, SRP est capable de ralentir/arrêter l'élongation des chaines naissantes: c'est l'activité d'arrêt d'élongation. Une étude mutationnelle d'un hétérodimère de SRP: SRP9/14, effectuée dans un système de traduction in vitro et dans des cellules de mammifères nous a permis d'identifier des résidus de SRP14 et SRP9 spécifiquement requis pour l'activité d'arrêt d'élongation.
