The surface properties of the cut root surface was evaluated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition, the degree of superficial debris and those retained in the cavity of the retropreparation was also examined. Results showed that the smoothest cut surface with minimal debris was produced by #169 plain tapered fissure bur on both high and low speed handpieces.
