A study into Hexachlorobenzene (HCB) fungicide contamination in spanish butter

The hexachlorobenzene (HCB) content has been studied in 75 samples of Spanish butters coming from five different regions. The mean levels obtained have been the following: Asturias and Santander, 0"099 ppm (basic fat): León and Galicia, 0"096 ppm; Cataluña, 0"202 ppm; Centre (Madrid), 0"085 ppm; Andalucia, 0"280 ppm. With a mean total of 0"151 ppm. Only 11"1 per cera of the butter samples of the Andalucian region was over the recommended limit of the FAO/OMS; HCB; being present in all the samples studied. In relation to the data the authors have on a previous work on HCB in natural mil, HCB is seen to either persist in the butter at levels similar to that of the original milk, or to diminish at the most half of the milk concentration.Se ha investigado hexaclorobenzeno (HCB) en 75 muestras de mantequillas españolas procedentes de cinco regiones.
