Scaffolds that mimic the structural features of natural extracellular matrix and can deliver biomolecules in a controlled fashion may provide cells with a favorable microenvironment to facilitate tissue regeneration. Biodegradable nanofibrous scaffolds with interconnected pore network have previously been developed in our laboratory to mimic collagen matrix and advantageously support both bone and cartilage regeneration.
