The intention of this paper is to provide a tentative perspective on attempts to theorize and conceptualize various understandings of regionalization and regionalism in relation to labor market regulation and global migration. The paper explores the link between national and collective responses to the emerging regionalism in the North and notice that labor exporting countries in the South are debating various coherent regional and sub-regional responses in fear of rising regionalism, protectionism and bans on immigration in the United States and Europe.
