Matrix converters with three-level phase switching and five-level line switching characteristics have recently been proposed as improved ldquoall semiconductorrdquo ac-ac power processors. For their control, different modulation schemes have also been developed with different researchers claiming different performance merits. To avoid confusion and hence fasten the converter applications in the industry, it would surely be better for modulation schemes to be developed from a common set of modulation principles that unfortunately has not yet been thoroughly defined.
