Se brinda especial atención a la forma en que la cámara facilita el proceso de comunicación in la investigación etnográfica. Se mencionan pero no se tratan en profundidad los temas teóricos de lo visual y el performance visual en las sociedades contemporáneas.In this edited volume, research methods employing the camera as a means of documentation in the context of ethnographic research are presented and discussed. To a lesser extent, the volume deals with research strategies for dealing with images produced by social actors, such as propaganda photography and video diaries. Special attention is given to the way the camera facilitates the process of communication in ethnographic research. This collection may be very helpful for readers looking for a discussion of methodological problems and practical advice for the use of cameras, especially in the context of ethnographic research. Theoretical issues of visuality and visual performance in contemporary societies are mentioned, but not treated in depth.Im Sammelband werden zum einen Forschungsstrategien und -methoden vorgestellt, die sich der Fotografie und Videografie als Dokumentationsmedium vor allem im Rahmen ethnografischer Forschung bedienen. Zum anderen werden – in geringerem Umfang — Forschungsstrategien diskutiert, die sich mit der Produktion von Bildmaterial durch gesellschaftliche Akteure befassen. Insbesondere der kommunikationsstiftenden Rolle der Kamera im ethnografischen Forschungsprozess wird in dem hier besprochenen Methodenband breiter Raum geschenkt. Forschende, die insbesondere im Rahmen ethnografischer Forschungen grundlegende Orientierung, praktische Anleitung und Anregungen für den Einsatz der Kamera suchen, finden eine Fülle an Hinweisen. Kultur- und sozialtheoretische Fragen zu Visualität und visueller Performanz als Strukturmerkmal (post-) moderner Gesellschaft werden zwar angesprochen, aber methodologisch und methodisch nicht ausführlich diskutiert und exemplifiziert
