Die vergleichende Studie zur politischen Kultur der postkommunistischen Gesellschaften Polens und der Ukraine zeigt zunächst den ungleichen Entwicklungsstand der Länder in ihrem Transformationsprozeß hin zu einer demokratischen Gesellschaft. Die Analyse basiert auf Daten des Neue Demokratien-Barometers III (1993) und IV (1995). Politische Kultur definieren die Autoren als das System der Orientierungen und Einstellungen zur Politik. Der Vergleich zeigt, dass Polen im Demokratisierungsprozess bisher weiter fortgeschritten ist. Die Bevölkerung der Ukraine mißtraut den politischen Institutionen stärker als die Polens und auch die 'Nostalgie' für die kommunistische Zeit ist in der Ukraine ausgeprägter und nimmt sogar wieder zu.
