Wherever there are people of Hungarian background in today’s world, the most distinctive of their surnames denote nationality. Some of them have several possible etymologies. This paper re-establishes existing etymological theories, and explores other possibilities, offering different solutions.Il y a dans le monde de nos jours des personnes d’origine hongroise dans presque tous les pays. Partout, leurs noms de famille les plus caractéristiques font allusion à une nationalité et dans certains cas plusieurs étymologies sont possibles. Nous affirmons ici des théories étymologiques déjà bien établies et nous en examinons d’autres, qui proposent une solution différente
