An assessment of the Scottish groundwater resource from a climate change and management perspective

Over the last twenty years climate change has resulted in more frequent droughts across the east of Scotland, this is having significant impacts on groundwater resources and the management issues that arise because of them. The purpose of this research will be to study the Eden catchment in north- east Fife and the impacts of drought on the catchment over the last two decades.The aims and objectives of this research project will be to critically assess the management of the Scottish groundwater resource and the current policies/ management that is meant to protect it. Hence the aims and objectives are as follows.♦ To critically assess current uses of groundwater at the Eden catchment in north Fife, Scotland and factors affecting it.♦ To explore potential impacts of drought on groundwater resources.♦ To analyze existing policies for groundwater in Scotland and explore how climate change impacts them.♦ To develop a framework for enhancing current and future quantity and quality of groundwater resources.
