Many indoor positioning applications related to accurate monitoring and tracking targets require centimeter precision. Infrared (IR)- and ultrasound (US)-based systems represent a feasible approach providing high robustness against interference. Furthermore, their combination may achieve better performance by mitigating their complementary drawbacks, covering larger areas, and improving the availability of positioning measurements.
